Completion of 23Things

I would just like to say that i have enjoyed the 23 Things programme. It has been both interesting and educational and given me a good insight into the web2.0. I will now be able to utilise this knowledge in my job going forward and at home. The web 2.0 can be used to great affect to gain and share knowledge between libraries and if used correctly will be very advangtaeous in the future. My only criticism is that perhaps the programme could have been shorter or longer with only 1 thing a week. Some weeks it was difficult to fit it into the workload.
My favourite things were setting up my iGoogle page, Flickr, podcasts, twitter and Wikis.
I am now off to register my completion - until next time..........

del.icio.us bookmarks on iGoogle page

Hi, i have just added delicious bookmarks to my iGoogle page and edited them to show my own bookmarks. This was again fairly simple to do. I now have quite a few gadgets on my homepage.

Use a blogger gadget

Hi, i have successfully added my Flickr Photostream to my blog. It was very easy and has been added to my other gadgets on my layout page.

Sign in to ThinkFree Office

This format proved to be ok once i was able to access it. It took about 3 minutes to initially access the programme through Java. I would wholly recommend the Google Document format as a much quicker way.

Create a Google Document

I found this task very easy and have shared my document with Alison Maloney.
The usage of this format was very familiar and fast loading.

Wikipedia

I have already used Wikipedia many times as i have it set up on my I-Google account homepage. However, this time i used it to look up information on the English Civil War and also the American Civil War. The volume and information contained therein is incredible and you should not fail to find everything you are looking for. A very good tool indeed!

Explore and contribute to a wiki

Hi i went to the Oxford web2.0 wiki and browsed through it. I didn't contribute as i haven't implemented any web 2.0 tools but i had a look at some of the links including working parties and other libraries. A very interesting quick way of finding out info.

Hi everyone, what a great thing twitter is! How did i ever do without it!

Seriously i think it could be a useful tool in the exchange of views and help re the Library work.

I have put down to follow KP which i am sure she will be over the moon about.

Linkin.com

I have joined Likedin.com and will connect with other people in my workplace in due course.

Facebook

I have looked at facebook and ascertained that it is a good way to interact and gain information and advice from other libraries. You can also ask questions and hope to get some sensible answers.

Podcasts

Being a music fan I have added the Radio 1 Chart podcast to my Google reader. I have had a listen to last week's show. Ths was fairly easy to do and the sound quality on my computer isn't bad.

YouTube

Hi i have been playing around with You Tube and viewing some funny library ones. I recommend the Blonde@library. I am not sure but it looks like Christine DeBlase is playing the part of the librarian! Also had a look at Quantum Physics on YouTube EDU.

I found it a bit confusing to start with but am ok now. I think a few people have had trouble trying to install the bookmarklet so i skipped that bit.

Little rhymes

Hi, as i don't have anything interesting to write at present here's a little rhyme.

Algy met a bear,
A bear met Algy,
The bear grew bulgy,
The bulge was Algy.

and another one:-

My hat it has three corners,
Three corners has my hat,
If it didn't have three corners,
It wouldn't be my hat.

How Surreal!

This Saturdays big one!

So Lee Byrne was let off and plays for the Welsh. The Officials had better be on the lookout that the Welsh don't try to play with 16 a la Ospreys. Quietly confident with our new look backline as long as Jonny gets the ball away. The Welsh will probably use Jamie Roberts as the battering ram as usual and try to bring other runners in from deep to play off him. As long as we play 'heads up' rugby as Johnson keeps saying we should be ok. It remains to be seen.

Sports debates

Hi just thought i would throw a few things into the arena for comments by Luddites and Brett 747.

1) How can Steve 'can't get off the ground' Borthwick still be England captain? Are we not building for the World Cup?

2) Did anyone see the coin throwing incident last nght in the Manc derby? Point - Mr G NEVILLE WAS SUSPICIOUS BY HIS ABSENCE FROM THE TEAM AND BENCH - WAS HE IN THE CROWD?

SEE YOU LATER.

Fire drill - frying today!

Just to say that the fire drill went ok today apart from the fact that when i went down the North staicase myself and Gareth Jones couldn't get out. All the doors were locked and no sign of any porters! Luckily a porter turned up to let us out after about 30 seconds. phew!
